Bobby Jones Pelz Wedge
The body of Bobby Jones Pelz Wedge is cast from a soft 302 stainless steel, which is very wear resistant. A pocket and deep set channels are milled to accommodate the clubs wear-resistant Carpenter 440XH face material.
The channels behind the clubface-insert remove substantial weight from the central section of the body, allowing additional weight to be repositioned to the sole for a low center-of-gravity. The club boasts a more rounded face shape in contrast to the teardrop-shape of existing wedges.
Bobby Jones Golf states, "heat and pressure are applied to a special structural bonding membrane in which Jesse Ortiz facilitates the release of an epoxy resin, which - upon cooling - creates a bond between the club's stainless body and face material that is stronger than welding. Upon curing, the membrane returns to its slightly spongy state, thus creating a soft forged-like feel to each shot."
Jesse Ortiz who designs clubs for Bobby Jones Golf in conjunction with Dave Pelz, the short game expert, agreed to work together to create a new line of wedges and change the mindset of amateurs who no longer have change their wedges so often or have them re-grooved.
